Scott Kahan MD, MPH

Scott Kahan, M.D., M.P.H. is a physician trained in clinical medicine and public health. His clinical practice specializes in obesity treatment, clinical preventive medicine, behavioral medicine, and nutrition. His public health work focuses on obesity treatment policy and public health interventions. Dr. Kahan is Director of the National Center for Weight and Wellness in Washington, DC and he has held academic appointments at Johns Hopkins University, George Washington University, and George Mason University. He serves on several Boards of Directors, including The Obesity Society, American Board of Obesity Medicine, and Obesity Action Coalition, and on leadership and guideline committees for the Endocrine Society and the American Diabetes Association. Dr. Kahan received his undergraduate degree in bioengineering from Columbia University, his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and his residency training and Master's of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University. He is an internationally-recognized opinion leader on obesity, nutrition, and preventive medicine and teaches several courses on obesity, nutrition, public health, and health behavior change to medical students, graduate students, and undergraduate students. He has advised the White House, US Congress, FDA, and several Surgeons General.
