Dr. ElSayed is the Senior Vice President of Healthcare Improvement at the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and currently fulfills the responsibilities of Chief Scientific and Medical Officer. In her primary role she oversees Medical Affairs, Professional Education, Outcomes Evaluation, and International Engagement. A practicing endocrinologist at Boston’s Joslin Diabetes Center and a Harvard Medical School faculty member, Dr. ElSayed brings over a decade of expertise in diabetes and obesity care, guideline development, workforce capacity building, quality improvement, and global healthcare.
She received her M.D. from Alexandria University, Egypt, completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Boston University’s Roger Williams Medical Center, and pursued clinical and research fellowships in Obesity and Diabetes at Joslin Diabetes Center and Tufts Medical Center as a Friedman Fellow. With a Master’s in Medical Education from Harvard Medical School, she focuses on implementing multimodal programs within healthcare workforces. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Health Education Science at MGH-IHP, her research delves into guideline implementation, quality improvement, complexity science, and multimodal interventions for behavior change in healthcare and educational leadership. Dr. ElSayed’s research interests include diabetes and lifestyle medicine, educational technology, workforce development, outcomes evaluation, and health equity. She also holds multiple certificates in clinical investigation, medical education, and leadership from Harvard Medical School, The Harvard Macy Institute and Tufts University’s Sackler School of Biomedical Sciences.
