Dr. Mandeep Bajaj is the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine and a Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. He is the Chief of the Section of Endocrinology at Baylor St Luke’s Medical Center (BSLMC), as well as Medical Director of the BSLMC Diabetes Program and Baylor Medicine Endocrinology and Diabetes. He is also the Immediate Past President (Medicine & Science) of the ADA. Dr. Bajaj has played a key leadership role in the development and expansion of diabetes care in Houston over the last 19 years. He has directed an outstanding program in diabetes care at Baylor Medicine, incorporating state-of-the-art technology and diabetes education. As chief of Endocrinology at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, he directs an inpatient diabetes program, taking care of hospitalized patients with diabetes and developing initiatives to improve the quality of diabetes care. As a clinical researcher in obesity and type 2 diabetes, Dr. Bajaj has delineated the metabolic and molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and the effect of PPAR-gamma agonists and GLP-1 receptor agonists on hepatic fat and glucose metabolism. He currently serves as the co-chair of the ADA Professional Practice Committee and on the ADA National Board of Directors. He has been awarded the Master Clinician Award by Baylor College of Medicine as well as the Banting Medal for leadership and service and the outstanding physician-clinician in diabetes award by the ADA.
