Dr. Bajaj is the Vice Chair for clinical affairs in the Department of Medicine and a professor of medicine and molecular and cellular biology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is the chief of the Section of Endocrinology at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and the medical director of its diabetes program as well as the Baylor Medicine Endocrinology practice. Dr. Bajaj has played a key leadership role in the development and expansion of diabetes care in Houston over the last 17 years. He has directed an outstanding program in diabetes care at Baylor Medicine, incorporating state-of-the-art technology and diabetes education. As Chief of Endocrinology at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, he directs an inpatient diabetes program, taking care of hospitalized patients with diabetes and developing initiatives to improve the quality of diabetes care. As a clinical researcher in obesity and type 2 diabetes, Dr. Bajaj has delineated the metabolic and molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and the effect of PPAR-gamma agonists and GLP-1 receptor agonists on hepatic fat and glucose metabolism. He is the editor-in-chief of BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care, published jointly with the ADA. He currently serves as President-Elect, Medicine & Science of the American Diabetes Association.
