Dr. Carolina Solis-Herrera is Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Associate Professor of Medicine, and Medical Director of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinics at UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA). She earned her M.D. from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and completed training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Diabetes and Metabolism under at UTHSA. She later retrained in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at UTHSA, joining the faculty in 2017 and becoming an Associate Professor in 2022. As Medical Director since 2019 and Chief since 2021, she has led one of UT Physicians’ top-rated clinics for patient satisfaction and founded the Center for Diabetes Excellence in 2025 to advance innovation and care in diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disease. Dr. Solis-Herrera has received numerous honors, including the 2024 UTHSA Presidential Clinical Excellence Award, Doris Duke Clinical Scientist Development Award, UT System Rising Star Award, and recognition among “Top Doctors in America” and “Extraordinary Women in Medicine.” A Voelcker Scholar and Associate Editor for Diabetes Spectrum, she serves on NIH and JDRF grant review committees and has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers. Her research focuses on cardio-metabolic endocrinology, obesity, fatty liver, and novel mechanisms of SGLT2 inhibitors. Dedicated to advancing patient care, education, and translational research, her ultimate goal is to develop innovative therapies to improve outcomes for those with diabetes and obesity.
